Potholes + a fake crashed car + curious citizens = urban India?

The other day I came across this installation in the middle of a busy Bangalore intersection that had people rather intrigued. Passing cars were slowing down in the middle of the road so that their passengers could take photos of the commotion.

The installation was created by a local Bangalore NGO, Janaagraha, that aims to engage citizens with their city, civic agencies and elected local representatives through an innovative online portal, I change my city. The website is a great way for locals to report issues with local infrastructure and services, to visualise them on a city map and track the progress of work to fix them.

It is great to see how a clever public installation and innovative website can generate discussion about local issues and empower citizens to engage in their democracy.
